39th Session of the ICAO Assembly
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly establishes ICAO's policy for the upcoming triennium, and reviews ICAO's work programme in the technical, economic, legal and technical cooperation fields. The Assembly is expected to establish an Executive Committee, as well as Technical, Economic and Legal Commissions. The Executive Committee will address, inter alia: technical assistance; aviation security; implementation support and development; facilitation and the ICAO Traveller Identification Programme; environmental protection; ICAO civil aviation training policy and capacity building in aviation; increasing ICAO efficiency and effectiveness; and ICAO's work programmes and activities in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Technical Commission is expected to address, inter alia, aviation safety and air navigation monitoring and analysis, standardization and implementation support. The Economic Commission will discuss, among other things, economic regulation of international air transport, aviation data, economics of airports and air navigation services, and economic development of air transport. The Economic Commission will discuss a consolidated statement of continuing ICAO policies in the legal field. The Assembly meets at least once every three years and is convened by ICAO's governing body, the Council. Assembly outcomes are then provided to the other ICAO bodies and to its Member. 39th Session of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee
The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) considers any matter within the IMO's scope that is concerned with prevention and control of pollution from ships. ADB Board of Governors 49th Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) aims to provide: guidance on ADB administrative, financial and operational directions; and the opportunity for member governments to interact with ADB staff, nongovernment organizations, the media and representatives of observer countries, international organizations, academia and the private sector. The annual meetings, which are held in a member country in late April or early May and include the participation of finance and economic planning ministers, senior government officials, representatives of multilateral development banks (MDBs) and investment bankers, aim to discuss challenges and explore solutions facing Asia and the Pacific. Fourth African Regional Conference on Irrigation and Drainage (ARCID)
The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) is organizing this conference, which is hosted by the Egyptian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (ENCID), on the theme, 'Agricultural Land and Water Management for Sustainability under Climate Variability'. The conference will focus on boosting agricultural productivity in Africa, based on irrigation and drainage. Keynote speeches will address: the farm and science interface under climate change; improving agricultural water management in Africa; and Water-Food-Energy nexus challenges at the farm. The conference, which takes place in Aswan City, Egypt, comprises technical sessions, an exhibition and book fair, and a one-day post-conference study tour. 2016 Annual Meetings of the Inter-American Development Bank and Inter-American Investment Corporation
The 57th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the 31st Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) is intended to provide a forum for discussion among the institution's Governors, including finance ministers and central bank presidents, and representatives of multilateral financial institutions, development agencies and private banks. A series of seminars will take place prior to the opening of the meeting. In addition to meetings of the Boards of Governors, the meeting will include sessions on, inter alia: the private sector as an engine of growth for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC); strengthening financing for the private sector to promote growth; consolidating LAC's participation in global value chains; the Caribbean's energy challenge; protecting productive ecosystems, including the coasts and the ocean, through an integrated approach; a “Blue Urban Agenda”; and the Road to Habitat III. High-Level Signing Ceremony for Paris Agreement
A high-level signing ceremony, convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, will take place as a first step in implementing the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in Paris, France, on 12 December 2015. The Agreement will then be open for signature in New York, US, until 17 April 2017. Countries will also need to adopt the agreement within their own legal systems, through ratification, acceptance, approval or accession. The agreement will enter into force when joined by at least 55 countries, which together represent at least 55% of global emissions. The ceremony is taking place on International Mother Earth Day. Climate Action 2016
Announced at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC, Climate Action 2016 will convene government, business and municipal leaders, civil society and academia to maintain momentum for multi-stakeholder climate implementation. This high-level gathering aims to complement and promote ongoing climate action on cities, land use, resilience, energy, transport, tools for decision makers, and finance. Organizing partners include: the World Bank; the Global Environment Facility (GEF); the Compact of Mayors; the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD); We Mean Business; and the University of Maryland. Seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7)
Energy ministers from the Clean Energy Ministerial's 24 participating governments will gather for CEM7, hosted by the United States in June 2016, to fully implement the CEM 2.0 vision of a more ambitious and effective CEM ready to respond to climate and clean energy challenges. Ministers will assess progress to date and launch new campaigns and efforts to drive progress in priority, high impact areas. As an implementation forum, the CEM will play a critical role in the Road from Paris to help countries deliver on their respective national clean energy goals and to build confidence and the capacity to increase ambition over time. Transport Day at COP 21
Jointly organized by the Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT Partnership), the Bridging the Gap Initiative (BtG Initiative), and the Michelin Challenge Bibendum (MCB), Transport Day 2015 will offer an opportunity for international experts on transport and climate change to discuss the contribution sustainable, low carbon transport can make to climate change discussions. The programme includes panel sessions on: collaborative actions towards ambitious transformations; vision for an efficient, largely decarbonized transport sector by 2050; challenges in significantly decarbonizing by 2050; sustainable transport action announcements; sustainable transport champions; and keeping sustainable, low carbon transport on the international agenda after COP 21. Expo 2017: Future Energy
