Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia 2016 (SETA 2016)
The inaugural Sustainable Energy & Technology Asia 2016 (SETA 2016) exhibition and conference is being held to stimulate international, governmental and industry discussions and collaboration on developing sustainable energy policies for the region's future economic development. Discussions will address the following topics: energy policy and planning, including investment, infrastructure policy, and renewable energy markets and policies; and electrical system technologies, including electricity generation, solar PVC and thermal, wind and biomass energy resources and technology applications, hydropower development, fossils fuels, coal-fired power plants, nuclear energy, smart grids and applications, energy efficiency, and lifestyle and consumption behaviors. The conference will include sessions on: transportation and alternative fuels, including hydrogen and fuel cell vehicles, battery development, ethanol and biodiesel, electric vehicles, and public and low-carbon transport. The conference will also address sustainable energy and green technology. Side events will be held on, inter alia: nuclear power in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region; energy security networks; solar technologies; plug-in electric vehicle technology in Thailand; and electricity peak demand and response readiness and preparedness in 2016. Global Aviation Dialogues: Africa Regional Meeting
This African regional meeting will discuss progress regarding the work of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on a global market-based mechanism (MBM) scheme. It is one of several regional meetings forming the second round of Global Aviation Dialogues (GLADs), which will take place during the period from 20 March to 8 April 2016 at five venues across the ICAO regions. GLADs aim to ensure the full engagement of States and other stakeholders on a global MBM scheme for international aviation and to facilitate information exchange. ICAO is developing a global MBM as part of a basket of measures for addressing the contribution of international aviation to climate change. Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2016
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) is an Abu Dhabi government initiative to address the interconnected challenges affecting energy, water and sustainable development. The largest sustainability gathering in the Middle East, ADSW encourages outcomes that pave the way toward sustainability, and provides the opportunity for dialogue and cooperation through policy dialogues, conferences, exhibitions and other events. ADSW 2016 is comprised of: an opening ceremony; the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), including a solar expo and sustainable transport zone; the International Water Summit; the EcoWaste exhibition; and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly. It also will also include the following events: Women in Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy; IRENA Financial Times Debate; Egypt Energy Forum; Abu Dhabi Global Action Day; and the Zayed Future Energy Prize, the United Arab Emirate's international awards for energy and sustainability pioneers. Speakers during the opening event include: Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto; UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; and nine heads of states, including those from the Seychelles, Palau, Kosovo, Serbia, Nigeria and Morocco. ADSW is being hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company, and is expected to attract more than 33,000, with over 80 heads and ministers of state, and other participants from more than 170 countries. World Economic Forum Annual Meeting
The World Economic Forum's (WEF) Annual Meeting will take place under the theme, ‘Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution,' with the aim of building a shared understanding of current changes and shaping a collective future that places humans at the center. The "Fourth Industrial Revolution" refers to the creation of new capabilities and impacts on economic, political and social systems as a result of a fusion of technologies across the biological, digital and physical worlds. The WEF will discuss climate change, environment and resource scarcity, food security and agriculture, inclusive, sustainable growth and security, employment, skills and human capital, gender parity, and the future of the global financial system, among other current challenges. The Annual Meeting will bring together over 40 heads of state and government with 2,500 leaders from UN agencies, business and civil society.
