G20 Energy Ministers Meeting
The Energy Ministers Meeting under the Group of 20 (G20) Chinese Presidency will take place from 29-30 June, in Beijing, China. Sustainable energy issues on the Chinese Presidency's agenda include advancing the implementation of the G20 Principles of Energy Collaboration and strengthening cooperation on energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency. The G20 is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 20 major economies. It includes the European Union (EU), which is represented by the European Commission and the European Central Bank, and 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US. P3a Conference: Public Private Partnership for Small Islands
The P3a Conference is jointly organised by the Netherlands, the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and small island developing States (UNOHRLLS), the Government of Aruba and the PPP Knowledge Center Aruba. The conference will discuss and promote the potential for public-private partnerships for small islands, in the areas of oceans, connectivity (ICTs and transport), sustainable agriculture, sustainable tourism, renewable energy, infrastructure and finance. The conference will bring together 37 small island developing States (SIDS) together with public and private sector leaders to strengthen international cooperation toward achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through providing governments, private companies, financial institutions and knowledge centers the opportunity to showcase and discuss upcoming and ongoing PPP projects that are of mutual interest. The conference plans to establish a SIDS Global Business Network that will link up the three SIDS regions, allowing for a better exchange of experiences and best practices. Aruba is a Caribbean island off the Venezuela coast, and is one of four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands, along with the Netherlands, Curaçao and Sint Maarten. G20 Green Finance Study Group Meeting #2
The second meeting of the Green Finance Study Group (GFSG) under the Group of 20 (G20) Chinese Presidency will take place on 22 March in London, UK. In 2016, the GFSG will work on identifying institutional and market barriers to green finance, and options for enhancing the ability of the financial system to mobilize private green investment. The GFSG will prepare a synthesis report on related findings for the third G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in 2016, scheduled to take place from 23-24 July 2016, in Chendgu, China. Asia Clean Energy Forum 2016
The 11th Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) will provide the opportunity to: share best practices in policy, technology and finance to meet the region's climate and energy security challenges, and knowledge exchange through discussions about clean energy. The ACEF aims to: facilitate knowledge sharing among clean energy practitioners in Asia; highlight innovative approaches to packaging and scaling up clean energy initiatives; and take stock of progress made in advancing the clean energy agenda in Asia. Participants will include representatives from governments, national and multinational banks, carbon and clean energy investment funds, academia, civil society, and development partners and other international organizations, as well as project developers and service providers, and environmental regulators. The event is being organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Korea Energy Agency. G7 Summit 2016
The 2016 Group of 7 (G7) Summit in Japan will bring together the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US to address global challenges. Under the Presidency of Japan, the 2016 Ise-Shima Summit will discuss measures to address the global economic slowdown, terrorism, the humanitarian crisis and ongoing conflicts. Separate meetings of G7 ministers will also take place through the year at various locations around Japan, including meetings of foreign, finance, agriculture, ICT, energy, education, science and technology, environment, health and transport ministers. The G7 was officially established in 1985 to facilitate economic cooperation among the world's largest industrial nations; summit meetings of the member nations began in 1975. 2016 AFDB Annual Meetings
The 2016 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) will convene under the theme 'Energy and Climate Change,' which draws on one of the Bank's 'High 5' priority areas, namely to 'Light up and Power Africa,' and reflects the Bank's New Deal on Energy and decisions emanating from the recent UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in December 2015. The Bank's Annual Meetings are its largest annual event, bringing together approximately 5,000 participants, and featuring around 40 official events in addition to the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors. The Meetings enable representatives of government, business, civil society and media to discuss the social and economic development of Africa. Going Beyond the Meter: Inclusive Energy Solutions in South Asia
This sub-regional workshop will provide the opportunity for lateral learning, through exchanging experiences and showcasing good practices in inclusive solutions, with a focus on gender equity, to address challenges faced in energy sector development in South Asia. More specifically, the workshop will enable participants to: share good practices and solutions on how changes in delivery mechanisms to improve access can result in greater gender equality and social inclusion, which can enhance the energy sector project effectiveness; exchange and learn from experiences and practices in pro-poor, gender and socially-inclusive energy sector policy development, project design, development and implementation; and enhance capacity to integrate pro-poor, gender and social equity considerations in energy sector policy and programmes in a systematic and sustainable manner. Participants will include decision makers, academics, representatives from the private sector, Asian Development Bank (ADB) staff, and non-government organizations involved in gender and energy issues.
